The world is fast changing and becoming even more dynamic. In this new era, we have four (4) generations working alongside one another in workplaces around the world. Born in the mid-1980's and later, Generation Y individuals are in their 20s and are just entering the workforce. With numbers estimated as high as 70 million, Generation Y (also known as the Millennials) is the fastest growing segment of today’s workforce.
4 generations are working side by side in the workplace. Many organizations and their departments are trying to balance a generation gap of more than 50 years between the oldest and youngest employees. Although there is no consensus of the exact birth dates that define each generation, they are generally broken into four (4) diverse groups:
New skill sets in strategic human resource management, and new competencies that facilitate effective communication and interactions among the diverse groups – these become the pre-requisites and the key value drivers in facilitating the organizations to continue to experiencing sustainable growth.
