ANSI/ESD S20.20:2021 and IEC 61340-5-1 are globally recognized standards for controlling electrostatic discharge (ESD) in sensitive environments such as electronics manufacturing and handling. ANSI/ESD S20.20:2021, developed by the Electrostatic Discharge Association (ESDA), provides requirements for creating an ESD control program to protect electronic components from damage caused by static electricity. IEC 61340-5-1, developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), is an international counterpart that aligns closely with ANSI/ESD S20.20, ensuring a standardized approach to ESD protection worldwide.
These standards define key elements of an effective ESD control system, including grounding, personnel handling procedures, and the use of protective equipment such as wrist straps, floor mats, and ionizers. They emphasize risk assessment and compliance verification, ensuring that organizations implement proper safeguards to prevent costly failures in electronic components. The 2021 revision of ANSI/ESD S20.20 introduced updates to improve risk-based assessment methodologies and align with evolving industry needs.
Compliance with ANSI/ESD S20.20:2021 and IEC 61340-5-1 is essential for industries dealing with static-sensitive components, such as semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, and telecommunications. Organizations that adopt these standards benefit from improved product reliability, reduced failure rates, and enhanced quality assurance.
The course has been designed to fulfil the following objectives:
Increase Organizational ESD awareness
Improves overall process performance and control products
Decrease failure rate, minimize rework and reduce expenses
Provides alignment with electronics industry peers
Offers visible proof to your customer during site visit
ESD control (proper clothing, grounded tables, signage, etc.)
Creates a competitive advantage and increase marketability
Reduce rejects and scrap cost
Increase product durability
Section 1: Introduction to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Awareness Section 2: Basics of ESD Control Section 3: ESD Protection & Measurement Techniques Section 4: ESD Auditing & Continuous Improvement
This course is designed for Manufacturing & Production Personnel, Quality Assurance & Control Teams, Maintenance & Engineering Teams, Warehouse & Logistics Staff, Leaders overseeing ESD control implementation and process improvements.
This is a2-days programme. This course runs from 9:00am – 5:00pm with an hour for lunch and periodic short breaks.
This is an intensive session designed to include as much discussion as possible. Lunch and breaks provide an opportunity for further questioning and discussion with the instructors.
