Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) has become a vital business priority for Malaysian SMEs as global markets, investors, and customers increasingly expect responsible and sustainable practices. Understanding the what and the why of ESG allows SMEs to strengthen competitiveness, build trust, and align with Malaysia’s sustainability agenda. This training helps participants explore the immediate relevance of ESG and its long-term impact on business growth.
Beyond awareness, SMEs must also take practical steps to measure and report their environmental footprint. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting provides the foundation for tracking carbon emissions and managing climate-related risks. With the right tools and knowledge, SMEs can not only comply with stakeholder requirements but also identify opportunities for efficiency, cost savings, and innovation. This 2-day programme is designed to bridge strategy and practice. Day 1 focuses on ESG fundamentals, frameworks, and the business case for Malaysian SMEs, while Day 2 provides hands-on exposure to GHG accounting methods and reporting standards. By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped with both the strategic understanding and practical skills to take meaningful steps towards sustainable business practices.
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
Understand what ESG covers in the Malaysian SME context and why it matters to customers, regulators, banks, insurers, and talent.
Recognize the business case for ESG in reducing risk, improving efficiency, building resilience, and gaining market access in the next 24–36 months.
Apply GHG Protocol principles, including gases, scopes (1, 2, 3), boundaries, and inventories, and know what typically applies to Malaysian SMEs.
Build credible GHG inventories by understanding principles of transparency, base year setting, consolidation, and data collection.
Navigate ESG and GHG claims such as carbon neutral, net zero, market-based vs. location-based reporting, and apply governance and assurance practices to ensure reliable disclosures.
