Electrostatic discharge related failures continue to cost electronics manufacturers many millions of dollars every year. The cost of a damaged wafer, die, component, or assembly might be only a few cents or could reach thousands of dollars. When failure happens in the field, multiply the costs by ten. ESD can impact production yields, product quality, reliability in the field, and customer satisfaction, and all of these affect your profitability. 

The course begins with an introduction to ESD. Advancement in the field of electronics has made gadgets more compact, faster and cheaper. This has resulted in indirectly resulted in electronic components that are becoming more and more sensitive to ESD. Fundamentals of ESD covers the important concepts of ESD such as concepts of Faraday caging, laws of induction etc. These concepts are critical in order to understand how ESD becomes a threat to our electronic industries. Armed with the important concepts of ESD, the course then focus on how to prevent and protect ESD sensitive components
At the end of this course, the participants will learn:
  • Understand ESD and the importance of ESD prevention
  • Understand the necessary steps to identify & manage ESD Protective Procedure
  • Look into ESD Protected Area
  • Understand the basic calculation for ESD control & learn how to evaluate material selections
  • Conduct audit of the overall site for ESD compliance
  • Able to design ESD program for the site
  • Enhancement their knowledge in ANSI S20.20 2021 / IEC 61340-5-1 standard

This course runs from 9:00am – 5:00pm with an hour for lunch and periodic short breaks.
 
This is an intensive session designed to include as much discussion as possible. Lunch and breaks provide an opportunity for further questioning and discussion with the instructors.
